By decorating the Christmas Tree with objects that have been gathered over the years, the family is tied to their own special traditions. When decorated, the tree is a blessing to the home and deserves our blessing in return. Each person should save one favorite ornament (or make a new one) to put on during the blessing. When the tree is complete, but before turning on its lights, gather the family for a simple blessing. One person should prepare the brief scripture reading. (Español después de inglés)
John the Baptizer appears at the beginning of Mark’s gospel with a theme to his preaching: “One mightier than I is coming after me.” John spends his time in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance…which leads to the forgiveness of sins...(Versión en español debajo de la versión en inglés.)
About a year ago I was asked to serve on a Stewardship Committee for the diocese. I was unsure about this at the start as I wondered if the input I and the other committee members provided would be heard. Reflecting back, this experience has helped me in many ways. I have learned things that other parishes do to help their parishioners grow in faith. I have developed a better understanding of the support provided by the diocese to our local parish. I can say that my uncertainty no longer exists because the discussions held at each meeting and through email were heard. (Versión en español debajo de la versión en inglés).
