St. Paul Catholic Parish is pleased to share that Joy Frecker has accepted the position of Coordinator of Liturgical Music. She will begin her responsibilities on June 1, 2020. Learn more about Joy and her background below.
Joy Frecker is a local musician who has long been a part of the music ministry at her home parish, St. Paul, as well as Holy Family and Victory Noll in Huntington. Beginning with providing music for Christmas and Easter liturgies with her siblings, she has since assisted as cantor and pianist for Sunday Masses as well as participating in the choir as singer, pianist, and harpist. Joy also shared her talents and gained directing experience when she was the music teacher at St. Paul Catholic School for three years.
In addition to her passion for sharing her gifts with her Church, Joy also uses her talents in the community. She is one of the staff pianists at Indiana Wesleyan University and enjoys teaching her own private piano students. Joy is also the Executive Director of the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra. She has served as the harpist for the IWU Orchestra, the MPO, and the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and has also performed at the Honeywell House in Wabash. She has used her harp, piano, and voice for various parties, nursing home performances, and weddings. Very much a part of the arts, Joy has been involved in the Marion Civic Theatre as musician, actress, and music director.
Joy is from a musical family, who nurtured her love of music. Having grown up in Marion, she started piano lessons with a local piano teacher, Ms. Ruth Kipp, at a young age. Not long after beginning piano lessons, Joy began taking harp lessons from Ms. Elizabeth Richter at Ball State University. Joy attended Indiana Wesleyan University, where she received degrees in Applied Piano and Business Administration. At IWU, Joy studied the piano under the direction of Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim. In addition, she toured with the IWU Wind Ensemble as pianist, harpist, and percussionist. Since graduation, she has received occasional vocal instruction from a variety of coaches, most recently from Dr. Troy Castle at IWU. Joy is blessed and humbled to have been chosen as the Coordinator of Liturgical Music at St. Paul to use her gifts for service in a deeper way.
